Prosper Founders Fest 2011

This weekend was the Prosper Founders Fest. It poured the night before so Audrey and I pulled on our wellies and braved the mud to catch up with Barker and see how the 5k went, and to see if any of our friends were out and about or if everyone joined the parrot heads at the Jimmy Buffet concert.

I had no idea where the finish line was. But eventually he came strolling up with a medal, for 2nd place. He also ran into one of his fraternity brothers, Phil.

Audrey was excited to have yet another for her collection.

But then it was time for the BBQ cook off. Barker, my dad and Zane decided to enter. There were probably 30 or more teams there. And I mean real teams. Like they take this seriously. They travel every weekend to compete. their smokers fit 45 briskets. Crazy. Barker just wanted to sign up because it was in our home town. They put the brisket on the smoker bright and early. They also had to turn in chicken and ribs.

In the meantime Zane and Audrey played washers.

By nap time I was way past bored and took Audrey home to put her down for her nap.

So we missed the evil looks Barker, my dad and Zane got when they beat all those pros and took home 3rd place in ribs (Zane's creation) and 4th in brisket (Barker and my dad's doing)

I went home and made a potato salad to go with the beans and whatever meat they ended up bringing home. I made a double batch, one for us, plenty to take to my friend April that just had a baby. But poor April, before I could stop him my husband dumped a ton of DILL into my beloved potato salad! Oh the horror! I tried to explain to him that DILL RELISH goes in potato salad. Never dill. Put that crap on white fish or when you're making pickles. But keep it the hell away from my yummy potato salad. Luckily for him, it only went into April's batch. And she's too sweet to complain. But had he ruined my batch with that crap, well it wouldn't have ended well for him.

So congrats honey on your day of winning....but stay away from my potato salad, or else.

Smooches!

School's Out For Summer

Today was Audrey's last day of school. On one hand I was sad. She loves her teacher and her school. I know she'll miss going something terrible. On the other hand, I'm excited to have her to myself every single day (she's mine and I don't like to share her) and she'll be glad to get back to the library story times and ballet class.

(sorry the picture is blurry, I can't seem to take clear pictures anymore and I'm not sure why)

As room mom I stuck around for their end of school party. It was chilly so there wasn't any water play, but they still had lots of fun in the bubbles, with toys, and painting a huge plate for their teacher. They had a quick snack time while I took everything down off the walls of their classroom. Then they went outside to play on the playground before their 'cook out' of hot dogs, chips, etc.
All and all Audrey had a great first year of preschool. It wasn't cheap, but she loved every second of it, made lots of friends, and learned a ton, which made it worth every penny.

Interview with a Two Year Old

Today my friend Heather asked her two daughters a series of questions. Teachers do this all the time and I've always loved it. So I asked Audrey the same questions about myself, and then about her father. It didn't go so well. It was nearly 7pm and she hadn't napped so she was about 15 minutes past ready to go to bed. But here are some of the funny, honest, spot on, and indecipherable answers I managed to get out of her. Oh, and you'll notice she refers to her father as Daddy, Barker and sometimes Honey. The Royal Wedding of William and Kate

My Auntie Di used to be a cake maker. She still lived in London when Charles and Diana got married. Every street over there had a block party for the nuptials and she made the American wedding cake, since in England they're traditionally a fruit cake. So when William proposed to Kate I made plans to head to Auntie Di's for the wedding!

Megan's son Jack and Audrey sharing popcorn

And playing on the iPad in their little rocking chairs like old people.

English weddings mean hats! Audrey loved that tradition.

In her princess pajamas and Cinderella slippers

dressed and ready to watch the wedding!

She and Jack sat on the toddler couch and snacked while watching the festivities.
She said "The Prince!" when she saw Wills and Harry walk in. I teared up because after watching them walk side by side since they were toddlers in the papers it really ripped my heart out to see them all grown up, but with out their doting mother there to watch them walk down the aisle.

The delicious food. I lost track of how many sandwiches, scones and cakes I ate. It was all so good.
