Hudson's 3rd Birthday Party

This year Hudson had a mildly John Deere themed birthday party. We invited a few of his 3 year old friends, played some games, and had pizza and double stuffed cookie cake.

Love Ellen in the background. ha!

We opened gifts after we returned home and he was so excited. It was by far the easiest, least stressful birthday party I've ever hosted. I think it was the first one where I haven't felt like I was working and frantic.
But I still can't believe my sweet boy is turning 3. Ouch.

A Rite of Passage

Little brother has officially torn his first head off one of Audrey's Barbie dolls.
I clearly recall the first time I busted Chase destroying one of my dolls. He tried to flush her after said beheading, in my favorite dress. It was a spaghetti strap silver gown with pleats... not that I was bitter or anything ; )

Thanksgiving 2014

This year for Thanksgiving we headed to the ranch for a week. Schools were closed which meant Barker was free. It was the first time he'd had off in forever so we were all excited to get away. He's been out there before but I hadn't. Seems I'm always too pregnant to travel more than an hour! ha! But this year I was finally good to go.

It was the first time I'd been to Texas in a year that wasn't for a funeral. This year I unfortunately lost my mother and all 3 of my grandparents. I knew that would make Thanksgiving sad and different so doing something as new as going to the ranch for a week was a good distraction.

We left on Saturday when he finished with soccer and made the first half of the trip. We stayed in Dallas with some of his friends and introduced the kids to an earthquake. We had planned on driving straight to the ranch but the weather was really bad so we made the second half of the trip Sunday morning when the storms had passed.

We didn't waste any time. Barker and Audrey went straight to a deer stand while Dad and I took the little kids grocery shopping.
We also found Huddie some Paw Patrol toys! They can't keep them on the shelves here so we were excited to happen upon a few new things to keep them busy after it was too cold or dark to play outside.

We basically just hung out and relaxed for a solid week. The kids climbed trees and made a fort out of the blind Barker bow hunts out of. And I got to spend a few hours alone with my husband, in a deer stand, twice a day for a week! That's right. I wasn't responsible for anyone else for a couple of hours! It was wonderful. I don't think any of us were ready to leave : (

Highlights:

Arden learned that at the ranch babies bathe in the sink!
 Her infamous mean face

She quickly learned to love it!

Hudson was all about the 4 wheeler and huge tractors but was bummed it was too cold for the boat.

This beauty, sheesh, I don't even know what to say.

The kids cherished spending so much time with their Daddy.
They all got some one on one time with him which I'm sure was a nice change of pace. They've been stuck with me a lot lately. I hardly left the house for the 5 weeks I battled pneumonia and I think the cabin fever had set in.

So wide open spaces and unlimited time with Barker was quite an upgrade.

Gingerbread night was a smash.
Audi would make these every day.

A bit bedraggled, I know, but we don't really worry about frivolous things like nice hair or clothes that match when we're hunting.

Huddie was a very serious designer.

 Audrey is always this meticulous.

 And goofy

 And sugar driven

One day we hit up the fantastic City Park. It was very similar to my beloved Frontier Park in Prosper. Barker and my dad had brought Hud Muffin to this park last year but the girls hadn't been yet.

 Arden enjoyed the swings.

 Hud loved the slides.

These 2 holding hands melts my heart.

We lured a kitty over at the park.

making music

And this trip confirmed my long standing suspicion that Hudson is BY FAR the most photogenic of our entire family.

We also went fishing a few times!

Audrey is way better than I am at casting.

 my beautiful boys

 fishing with flair
What? Don't you fish in a monogrammed pullover and leopard print sunglasses?
(yes, that's a Barbie tackle box and fishing pole)

the whole gang playing with worms
The kids also played with deer bones I found and an arrow head... redneck games.

You couldn't have asked for better weather. It was simply beautiful. And the Thanksgiving dinner was divine! Why don't we do turkey and dressing once a month?

As for hunting, we saw a ton of turkeys and countless deer but Barker didn't kill anything. Unless we absolutely need the meat he doesn't like to kill anything smaller than his largest kill to date.
Side note: I'm still better at spotting deer than Barker. ; )

We all had the best time and Barker is already planning the next trip!

Not So Silent Night

The annual nativity play at church was a huge success!

Hudson stayed on the stage this year and even delivered his gift to the baby Jesus!
However, he did refuse to wear his robe.

Audrey was an angel, as always.

11 Months Old

Our littlest beauty is 11 months old already.
Well, on paper at least.
In many ways she's still like a newborn.
She doesn't always sleep through the night. She likes to nurse every 3 hours. She has no desire to walk, she prefers to be held. Always. But I don't usually mind these things since she's the last baby.

11 months. Wow. The more kids you have the faster it all flies by.
I'm going to miss those tiny toes and little smocked dresses terribly.

This is Halloween

This Halloween we skipped our block party (boo) to trick or treat with Barker's friend Wes's family. They invited us out last year and we had so much fun that when they invited us again this year we jumped at the chance. The kids love the hay ride and I like the safety in numbers aspect!
 My minions

As soon as I saw Despicable Me 2 I knew my first two just had to be yellow minions and Arden a purple, evil minion. This was the easiest year for costumes so far. I borrowed the yellow hats and shirts from my cousin Megan in South Carolina. We already had the overalls. So all I had to buy was Arden's hat and purple top, she already had black pants pants. So I think costumes cost me about $20 total this year. That's a record, by far.

Sometimes Barker and I dress up in a theme with the kids but this year we opted out.
However my oldest child, Rykley, did show up dressed like me. ha!
I'm not sure if this means flannel never goes out of style or if it means I dress like a 20 year old and I need to update my wardrobe now that I'm old. I think it simply showcases my love for the 90's fashion staples. Oh how I miss the 90's! I can't seem to give up my flannel, torn jeans, vans, concert t-shirts or alternative music. And if I was young and cute I'd still be in overalls like my kids! ha!

This neighborhood has a hay ride for the kids every year.
It's much easier on their little legs to ride for a while and then walk door to door.

Huddie loved saying "trick or treat!" and "thank you! Happy Halloween!"

Barker offered to take the camera at one point so I could hold hands with Hud as some cars were going up and down the streets. Sadly, all the pics look like this...
I'm assuming Barker isn't a fan of my forehead.
It doesn't appear in any of the pics he took. Hhmmm

Hud was not a fan of holding my hand. He wanted to be independent. Or perhaps he was afraid I'd take a candy tax. He's really growing up lately : (
