NOLA for New Year's

Barker had to work a soccer tourney in Mandeville for a few days over the holiday so, as always, the kids and I tagged along. We had a great time. The kids were all about the indoor pool. We also enjoyed visiting new restaurants. I had Barker bring his bike cause I heard there was a really nice trail and he was, for once, glad he listened to me and brought it along. It said it was absolutely beautiful. My work out was not as enjoyable as the hotel gym also doubled as a daycare, apparently. But all and all it was a good time.
When it was time to head home Barker shocked me by not heading north to Shreveport. Instead he informed me that he had booked us a beautiful suite in New Orleans for the new year! He's always full of surprises, just one of my favorite things about my wonderful hubby.
There was also a bowl game scheduled so the French Quarter and business districts were crawling with people from all over. It was chilly, but not so much so that we couldn't hoof it around town. We ate too much, did a little browsing, slept like we hadn't slept in weeks, and had a blast with the kids at the aquarium.
Audrey really enjoyed the otters and penguins.

 Hudson thought everything was amazing.
He just ran from one thing to another pointing and touching and just soaking it all in.

 All about boats

 love these goof balls

As always, the sharks were a huge hit. Audrey still talks about how I took her to the shark tunnel last year in Oklahoma. I try to take them to an aquarium, zoo or museum wherever we go and the fact that Barker recognized that and decided that's how we should ring in the new year really meant a lot to me. I have loved New Orleans since I was a little girl but hadn't been in a long while so for me it was a wonderful way to kiss 2014 goodbye.

3 Years Old

My main man is 3 years old.

I could never put into words just how much I love this beautiful boy.
I also adore his big open mouth smile ; )

He thinks it's funny to be a bit of a stinker now, here I asked him not to touch his animal, David, so he gave me that Barker 'I'm getting away with something cause I'm cute' grin and put one hand on David. Turkey.
But he's a wonderful little guy. All I hear from people at his school and church is how much everyone just adores him. Our 2's weren't terrible so I'm hoping Hudson at 3 is just as easy.
He's pretty easy to please. He loves yogurt, Audrey, church, tractors, donuts, Coach Rachel, Paw Patrol, bow ties, Magnatiles, Hot Wheels, school, monster trucks and The Beatles. Yes, he too loves the Beatles. He sings their songs around the house and really digs his Yellow Submarine Vans.
Life is grand.

1 Year Old

This little beauty is one.
This past year was really hard for me. I'm grateful this little gift arrived when she did. She likes to be with me always, which keeps me distracted from everything else, and she loves to give kisses, which fills my heart with joy. Distraction and joy are two things I really needed to make it through this year. Still can't believe she's really one.

Christmas 2014

This year we managed to squeeze in all the usual festivities. Plenty of hot cocoa, Christmas lights, decorations (even though I was quite bummed to realize our tree won't fit in this old house with it's low ceilings), lots of Christmas carols, a visit with Santa, Christmas movies galore, candlelight service, and our annual trip to Texas to celebrate with our friends and families. It was sad and strange not having my mom or grandparents this year but the silver lining was the baby shower at the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens to celebrate the upcoming birth of Everitt.

Cousins!
Arden is 5 months older than Zoey but you wouldn't guess it judging by their height. However, my poor little meatball has her beat in the weight department.

After church on Christmas eve we read books and baked cookies for the big guy.

Hudson asked Santa for a monster truck and Audrey said she'd just like for him to surprise her.
They both got their wish.

 They always get books.
Huddie was particularly excited about his father/son monster truck book.

Audrey with her Rainbow Brite book

Huddie scored a plate and cutlery shaped like construction trucks, Paw Patrol toys, those loops that launch hot wheels, sorry, I have no idea what you call them. I'm a girl. He also really liked his Lego Duplo blocks.
Audrey's favorites were her bath robe, kenetic sand, Frozen Legos, chunky necklace and Anna hat, but I think she was the most surprised at the fish tank.
The next day her daddy took her to pick out her own fish. Hudson wanted to go to, and of course wanted a fish as well. Audrey named her fish Frannie and Hudson calls his Bleu.

Arden woke up later than the bigs with the bed head she inherited from her daddy.

Ardie knew right away which items Santa had left for her.
She went right to her ball and new pink bear wub-a-nub paci.

Huddie was so excited that daddy liked the sweater he bought him.

Audrey drug her dad all over town to find my gift. She knew exactly what she wanted to get me. A locket. But not just any locket. It had to be silver. It had to be simple, no designs. And it had to have room for two pictures. After she gave it to me she explained that she came up with the idea so I could always have a picture of her on one side and Hudson on the other, so I wouldn't miss them when they're at school. I asked her "What about Arden?" She replied "Well she's always with you so I didn't think you'd miss her." ha!

Her daddy also got me something shiny. A diamond band.
Please excuse my stupid surprised face.
He's bought me one for every baby. Audrey's he gave me for Mother's Day when she was a baby. Hudson's he gave me while I was in ICU and he was still upset, scared and not himself. When I went into labor prematurely with Arden he hadn't yet bought a band, so I was very shocked to open it at Christmas. I love them all. Each one is pretty, delicate and slightly different, just like my babies.
He also bought me a ton of clothes, which always makes me laugh. It's a fine line, buying your wife clothes. I've seen it go very wrong. I buy all of the kids and his clothes, except for his athletic gear, but rarely buy for myself. (Being old and having had 3 babies it's just not fun to shop for myself.) So I love that he knows what I like and is brave enough to buy for me. He's a thoughtful kinda guy, so much so that when he made breakfast that morning he went the British route for me. When I text him and say I'm craving chocolate milk he knows not to come home with Nestle. It's Cadbury or nothing. I'm sure he used to think I was odd for wanting beans on toast or corned beef with grilled tomatoes for breakfast but now he quite enjoys it all. I definitely regret not having my grandmother teach him how to make Yorkshire pudding.
Soccer Shots has a break over the school Christmas vacation, so Barker was home all the time, which has been Heaven. He's cooked a lot, though. He's a great cook. I mean, pulled pork meatloaf? Come on! Last year for Christmas my dad bought Barker a smoker and I swear it's magic. He makes the most delicious things appear out of it, much to this distain of my jeans.

So we had a very happy Christmas. I think the kids were the most excited that my dad had a big wooden playground delivered. Hud was amazed to see an 18 wheeler in front of our house. Now if it would only stop raining so they could play on it so Barker and I could put everything Christmas back in the attic for another year.

Arden turns UNO!

We had a fiesta to celebrate Arden Wren being UNO!
I didn't feel like going all out... it's the third first birthday party I've thrown, it's Christmas, everyone is super busy, our house isn't finished, etc...so we just decided to treat our friends to lunch at our fav mexican restaurant and send them all home with a deck of UNO cards. It was almost as pitiful as Hudson's 2nd birthday party, the one where I went into labor the day before so we had his party at the hospital, but at least this time there was queso!
 must have been good

she would not wear the bow that goes with this outfit

 she liked her puzzle

and everyone enjoyed reading her new books

It's hard to believe our last baby is no longer technically a baby. She's still so tiny. She's not even on the charts, she refuses to take a sippy cup, straw cup, bottle, etc. She'll only nurse. She's quit sleeping through the night. She won't leave socks or shoes on. She's scared to walk, preferring to be held at all times. So she doesn't seem like a 1 year old. And since she's my last, that's okay by me. However it would be nice if she'd wean before preschool! Sheesh.

Arden's Baptism

The day after her first birthday we had Arden Baptized. I wanted to have it done at Christmas because church just feels even more special and beautiful during the Advent season. We were quite relieved Arden let JoAnn sprinkle her without giving her a piece of her mind. Whew!
