Barker's New Gig

Barker's uncanny patience and inability to sit still landed him a very unexpected gig last night.
Sunday school teacher.
No, you haven't stumbled upon the wrong blog. You read that correctly. Barker. Former President of a fraternity. True, he has a bunch of different names but we're talking about the same guy.
Last night at church Barker was asked to start teaching the Kindergarten Sunday school class. He said yes, of course, he never says no. No matter how much he already has on his plate. He always finds the time. Just yesterday he was in panic mode at work, rushing to meet a deadline for a permit, yet still managed to show up for Audrey's VBS program and lunch at one church, then family dinner and game night at another. He never stops. That's just one of the many characteristics I admire about my dear husband.
But Sunday school is definitely new territory for him. I've got a feeling it's going to look like a scene from the film Kindergarten Cop. But I figure if he can coach 2 year olds he can keep a few 5 year olds from bouncing off the walls for an hour. I mean, Kindergarteners after a snack can't be all that different from a bunch of fraternity boys. Right? Laughing, spilling drinks, a few minor injuries, button downs and boat shoes.
But in case all of his gigs start running together, I'm just going to go ahead and apologize in advance if your child comes home and says 'Did you know Jesus and the apostles were on a Soccer team?' He's new at this.

Camp

So far this summer Audrey has enjoyed summer camp, art camp and vacation bible school. As you can see, Hudson is also enjoying VBS. He can praise with the best of them!
Audrey still has soccer camp on the horizon and hopefully a movie date or two. We love summertime!

4th of July

This year to kick off the 4th Barker and Audrey ran a 5K. Hudson and I cheered them on. After the 5K I noticed Audrey was holding a melted Freezer Pop. She said she was holding it until it melted, through the run, in case her daddy wanted Popsicle juice after his run.
So thoughtful.

Then we headed downtown to the Farmer's Market. The weather was so nice it was hard to believe it is actually July in Louisiana, but I wanted to leave downtown for naps before it became too crowded. 50,000 people were expected to show up. Yikes!

Later that afternoon we popped fireworks at home then made our way to Audrey's school. It's located at the top of a hill near downtown, so we were hoping we could watch fireworks from there without having to be stuck in downtown traffic 2 hours past bedtime.
It was a success!

Take Notes Narcissists

You may think you are oh so special and important that you need to name your kid something stupid to ensure they'll also be one of a kind. But a kid in Florida named Bamboo Flute just stabbed his dad. He's one of 16, yes 16, children in this family. The point I'm trying to make is when you have that many kids, if you give even half of them ridiculous names like Bamboo Flute, don't act all shocked when one of them stabs you.

18 Months Old

This little light in my life is 18 months old.

He thinks everything is funny, especially climbing on things he knows he shouldn't. He says my name a thousand times a day, especially when we're in the car since he can't see me, being backwards and all. He thinks of eating from the moment he wakes until he passes out at night. He still enjoys a 3 hour nap. (We're a lot alike.) His favorite part of the day is our nightly walk around our neighborhood because he loves his red car, and really enjoys the bath that follows our walk. This kid is a squealer! So loud! He immensely adores his sister and can't contain his excitement when his dad walks into the room. He has been such a joyful addition to our family and makes me cry tears of happiness when he runs up and gives me Eskimo kisses. I'm eternally grateful I get to be the mommy of this wild little man.
